Today’s review from Forever 21+’s 2018 UK swimwear collection is the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini Top and matching Bottoms in black.

A stylishly simple bikini in classic black with mesh detail to avoid it being plain and boring – what’s not to love?

I ordered the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top and bottoms in 1X, which is labelled as a UK 20 but I in my opinion the top fits more like a UK 16 and the bottoms are akin to a UK 16/18.

I loved the simple elegance of the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini. The mesh details were just perfect, and I really liked the triangular shape of the cups – something that is often hard to come by in larger sized bikini tops.

The Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top is another cami-style one – if you have seen my previous reviews you will know this is a common style from Forever 21+ – with no underwires or formal support.

There are thin removable pads to disguise pointy nipples, but I took them out as usual as they never stay in place and end up making me cross because they inevitably fold themselves over and disappear into the corners of the pockets!

The Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top’s straps are fully adjustable so it’s easy to get the best fit for you. Again, this is a feature that isn’t always offered on swimwear in general, not just plus size pieces.

The back of the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top has no fastening so it just pulls on over your head, or alternatively you could simply step into it and pull it up into position…that is, if your hips aren’t as generous as mine.

As I am sure you are expecting me to say, I had my usual issue of requiring much more boob room in the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top than it provided. It’s such a shame…but my bank balance doesn’t mind too much as being very busty is saving me from buying oodles of swimwear!

You may well be thinking the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini top looks fine from this angle, but some of my other pictures show the quadboob and side spillage I was getting. I know I won’t ever get a perfect fit from non bra-sized swimwear but the small fitting bust of the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini Top was just too much of a compromise to work for me, unfortunately.

The Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini briefs, on the other hand, were absolutely perfect.

Sitting high on the hip, the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini bottoms are incredibly comfortable. They are quite skimpily cut on the backside but not indecently so. I loved them! I am sure they would give great tan lines, and are the perfect middle ground between a thong and regular bikini bottoms.

Forever 21+ Mesh Trim Bikini review

So although the Forever 21 Plus Mesh Trim Bikini ended up being another swimwear piece that I decided not to keep due to the lack of boob room, I am posting it here anyway in case someone less busty than me sees this review and finds it helpful. I think it’s always useful to see everyday people and a wide range of bodies in clothes, lingerie and swimwear online – stock photos are great but candid pictures of people of all shapes and sizes can really help give a better idea of fit.

The Forever 21+ Mesh Trim Bikini top costs £18, and the bottoms are £16. You can check out the latest availability on the Forever 21 website.

  1. Ok so I just commented on your last post, but thank you for reviewing all these pieces because it’s SO helpful to see them on a normal body. I know they have used plus size models in the website photos but they must be very photoshopped. Your pictures are so real! Also I love this bikini and I think I’m going to have to order it along with the ice cream cone swimming costume you reviewed last time.

    1. Thanks Gemma! I pride myself on using un-photoshopped photos that truly represent how I look in items, and naturally I will post the ones I prefer, but my main aim is to showcase the garment as fully and as realistically as possible. So you will see double chins, cellulite, back rolls and chubby arms. It’s all me, and I am proud of that.
I hope you loved the pieces you ordered.

  2. Its a shame they put the mesh bit on the underbust, it can't be seen on the F21 model and she has relatively small boobs so there's no hope for any of us who are more busty. I still think it looks good though and your review has convinced me to give it a try. Thanks Leah.

    1. Yes, I think you are right. The mesh bit is hidden on the bikini top on anyone with a heavier bust. And I agree that it looks fine as it is but the design could have been thought out a bit better. What did you think of the bikini when you got it? Did you keep it?

  3. I have been following your reviews with great interest. I find them so useful even when things don't fit because the details you provide help me decide if they will or won't work for me. Thank you for the time and trouble you put into your posts, it is much appreciated xxx

    1. Thanks Lily – that’s exactly why I do what I do. I want to show women what things look like on me so they can get an idea of what it might look like on them. Thank you for your support, it is much appreciated.

  4. Loving all these reviews, they have really helped me to see my body more positively. Thank you.
