Simple, sassy, and with a nod to Barbie with the dupe font, the Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit was definitely very high up on my wish list of swimming costumes to review here on the blog.

Excitedly, I ordered a size 0X, which the label states is equivalent to a UK 18. I would say in this case that this is reasonably accurate, but perhaps it would be better to say this fits like a 16/18.

The fit of the Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit was pretty much spot-on for me…but of course I had my ever-present gripe of the swimsuit not having enough boob room. I wonder if I will ever find a non bra-sized swimming costume that fits decently on the bust? I shall certainly keep trying.

I must clarify that the boob room wasn’t actually too bad on the Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit in terms of volume across the bust, but I definitely needed more coverage at the sides of the swimsuit for my boobs. Sideboob is all well and good for less busty celebs, but for me it’s very dangerous territory. I don’t want to put myself at risk of having a wardrobe malfunction in public, thank you very much!

I love the racerback style on the Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit; it makes a welcome and unexpected change from the usual scoop back or plain old spaghetti straps. And it’s super comfortable, too. My shoulders don’t quite know what is happening without having straps weighing them down!

There is no formal boob support in the Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit at all – no underwires, and no internal boob shelf. Still, the suit did a pretty good job of supporting my bust despite that thanks to the compression provided by its snug fit.

The Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit is quite modestly cut at the bottom, with its medium cut leg rather than the high so often found on Forever 21+ swimwear, and good coverage on the backside. There’s no danger of getting a wedgie with this one!

Forever 21+ Swimsuit review

The Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit’s racerback straps give the swimsuit a halterneck appearance from the front, which I really like. As someone who almost always has the weight of bra straps upon her shoulders, it made a pleasant change to have the strain distributed elsewhere, and in fact I didn’t feel any discomfort on my neck or shoulders whatsoever.

With the ‘Babe’ slogan, F21 could have gone all out with a really high cut leg and super low cut bustline, but they didn’t. I really like the fact that what we have here is a simple, comfortable and practical swimsuit that has a sassy side to it thanks to the slogan. The Forever 21 Plus Babe Swimsuit is really wearable and I expect to see it on lots of plus size beauties this summer.

  1. Well isnt this a lovely swimming costume. Its funny, its just a straightforward black cossie but because they have put a logo on it it looks great! I was going to order some jeans from F21, I think I will add this to my basket. Thanks for your helpful review XXX

    1. I am so glad my review helped you! Did you buy this one in the end? I'd love to know what you thought of it. How about wearing it with the jeans you bought?

  2. I need a swimming costume as I am starting swimming lessons, its abit embarassing to be an adult who cant swim but thats me! And soon it wont be hahaha! Anyway do you think this swimming cozzie would be appropriate for swimming lessons or do I need something more sturdy??

    1. I think it's absolutely brilliant that you're having swimming lessons. Better to learn the skill than continue being a non-swimmer.
And yes, I think this would be great for this as the racer back means you won't have the straps falling off your shoulders distracting you.
      Good luck!

  3. Thanks for your useful review, I just bought this swimsuit because of your recommendation. Also I will be telling my cousin to get one as she has been looking for a funky black swimsuit for weeks. Cheers.
