Rocket Dog ‘Lift Off’ Patent Lace Up Wedge Shoe Boots from Barratts

You might have noticed that I’ve posted several footwear reviews lately, but they have all been for flat or low heel shoes.  I tend to wear this sort of thing most of the time; partly because my job requires me to wear shoes like this, but also because I often find higher heeled shoes uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time and very difficult to walk in.

The exception to this rule are wedges.  I love wedges – they are the perfect way to get height without the discomfort.  Just before Christmas, I was given the opportunity to review some shoes for high street and online retailer Barratts so I gave them a few suggestions for shoes that I liked and they very kindly sent me these beauties:

These Rocket Dog ‘Lift Off’ Patent Lace Up Wedge Shoe Boots really caught my eye.  They have a patent finish and are therefore of a smarter appearance than regular shoes.

As you can see, the wedge looks quite chunky in these pictures, meaning that you can get quite a bit of height without your foot being at a steep angle.  After placing my order, I wondered if the shoes might be too chunky and therefore not feminine.  However, I needn’t have worried as they were every bit as fabulous as I’d hoped they would be.

These shoes are great!  I ordered them in size 6 (I usually go for a 6 in closed shoes and boots but a 5 in sandals and wide fit shoes) and they were perfect.  The heel height is 9cm but the platform at the front is 3cm so really it’s like wearing heels of 6cm tall, so not particularly steep at all.

The rounded shape of the heel means that these shoes do not appear chunky and heavy, but instead remain feminine and stylish.  Additionally, the heel is narrower at the back than at the front (even moreso than the Barratts pics show), which means there is no added ‘bulk’ to the shoe.  Such attention to detail has been paid to the design of these shoes and it has really paid off.

The shoes are not actually patent leather, but instead a patent PU material.  They feel very strong and durable so I am sure they will last me for a long time.  The wedge heel is covered in a suedette fabric that is soft and can easily be brushed clean.

As you can see, I wore the Rocket Dog ‘Lift Off’ Patent Lace Up Wedge Shoe Boots with one of my favourite dyed Wallis dresses and my Maidenform leggings.  I was going shopping so this was the perfect outfit for looking smart but still being comfortable.  These shoes would be ideal for office work and would look fab with smart tailored trousers.  They could also be worn on a night out or on other formal occasions.  The patent finish definitely makes them smarter than your average shoes and being black they are of course very versatile and could work with a number of outfits.

I love these shoes so much and I know I will get a lot of wear out of them.  And, I’ve discovered that they come in a range of different designs, too!

Rocket Dog Leopard Lace Up Wedge Shoe Boots.  Wow…I need these in my life.  Gorgeous!

I would love it if Rocket Dog made more types of shoes like this.  I would particularly like to see this style in a Mary Jane design in various colours and patterns, including black patent croc print.

These shoes are not available instore and are offered online only (currently on sale!) so make sure you take a look at them before they sell out.

Congrats on your purchase. It's always nice to find things that in our eyes seem great! One piece of advice from me, if I may. Those shoes would look better with a nice pair of trousers. Should you wish to wear them with a dress, avoid pairing it with leggings, as it "breaks" your figure in blocks, thus creating an unflattering image. Better opt for a nice pair of opaque tights in black, which combined with the black shoe would project the image of a long, lean leg and hence a great figure.Enjoy!
