Bangers for Breakfast? Gok Wan for Simply Yours shapewear press launch

Several weeks ago, I had a wonderful surprise thanks to my lovely blogging friends Georgina and Cheryl: an invite to the press launch of Gok Wan’s spring/summer 2012 shapewear for Simply Yours.  They had both been kind enough to pass my details on to the PR company organising the event (Chase PR) so one morning I got up VERY early and headed off on a train to London Victoria.

I met up with Georgina and fellow bloggers Becky and Laura at the station and the four of us travelled in style in a black cab to the W Hotel in Leicester Square.  We were met in the ‘E Wow Suite’ by the gorgeous Sheena from the PR company, who welcomed us and organised some much needed hot/cold drinks for us.  We then met up with many other bloggers and enjoyed our sumptuous surroundings, which included fibre-optic curtains and a revolving sofa!

All of a sudden we noticed the presence of the one and only Gok.  He was looking as effortlessly stylish as ever, dressed in a simple black top and black jeans.  He went straight up to a group of bloggers and invited them over to look at the rail of shapewear with him, talking about how he had used the feedback from customers of his current range to inform him of things to improve with this range.  His new collection is known as the ‘Wall of Fame’ and it is truly stunning.  Take a look for yourself:

I was really pleased to see that the mannequins were plus sized, thus giving us larger girls an idea of what Gok’s shapewear might look like on us.

On sale from March 2012, Gok Wan for Simply Yours will be available in 30-46 A-G for the bras/bodyshapers and 8-32 for the knickers.  The great news is that this is one cup size larger than previously available so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this trend will continue and soon Gok’s gorgeous undies will be made in H+ cups.  There is certainly a market for it!

There are several different items available to help us with our sartorial issues: the Banger Booster bra, the Pull Me In Pants, the Curve Controller body, the Slicker Knicker, the Sassy Slip and the Divine Outline multiway slip.  The pieces are made in three very striking colours: Crush (coral), Sweet Slate (grey) and Blush (powder pink).  The bra items all had multiway straps, making them truly versatile and possible to wear with most outfits.  The items with knickers/slips had suspenders or loops for them, which I felt was a great finishing touch.  And, of course, every piece bore the Gok logo – a small gold charm and/or an embroidered logo (of which I tried, without success, to get my silly camera to take an in-focus picture!).

Gok really was the host with the most and ensured that he gave the whole two hours to mix and mingle with us all, as well as posing for some photos.

I was fortunate enough to have a few minutes to chat with Gok at one point and I told him that I thought it was great he was able to spend time with us.  He said, ‘Well of course!  It’s the launch of my shapewear range so it would be kind of odd if I wasn’t here.”  I tried to explain myself better, saying that it was much appreciated by us all that he was willing to be so patient by posing for pics with us and spending time talking to us about the shapewear.  He thanked me and gave me a big cuddle – such a lovely man!

I can’t believe I even plucked up the courage to ask him to pose for this pic:

I just couldn’t resist asking Gok to grab our bangers!

I was thrilled to spend some time talking to other fellow bloggers and fabulous people such as Sarah, Kitty, the wonderful Charlotte from Simply Yours, Lauren, Clare and Mhairi.

(Thank you to Lauren and Cheryl for letting me use some of their images on this post – I was having such a great time I kept forgetting to take pics!)

I had such a wonderful morning – thank you so much to Gok, Simply Yours and Chase PR.  It was a thoroughly professional event and a great success!  I am certain the shapewear range will be extremely popular and I look forward to seeing more from Gok’s design skills in the future.

I love Gok Wan and the shapewear does look great! I think that's just sad that the size range is limited when it comes to the cup sizes and small bands. But I'm happy that the band sizes go all the way up to 46, just awesome! Many times I find that the bands end up at 38 which just isn't enough for a lot of women.

Hi Saija, thanks for your comment. I agree with you about the cup sizes but bearing in mind he has expanded this range by one cup size I am hopeful that this trend will continue in his future ranges 😉 It's great the bands go up so high and this will make a lot of ladies very happy indeed. Good for Gok! x
