Evans Teal Jacquard Dress 14

High street plus size retailer Evans have been around for many years. Their collections have varied since the brand came about, and personally I think their items are getting better and better. I recently placed an order to try a number of items and today I am going to share with you the Teal Jacquard Dress (was £40.00, now £36.00, UK sizes 14-32 (limited sizes available at the time of writing)).

I am a complete and utter sucker for teal so it’s no wonder I was drawn to this little beauty! I also adore the pattern and it reminded me quite a lot of a gorgeous dress from Asda I’d worn last Christmas. I ordered the dress in a size 14.

For reference, I am wearing my Ewa Michalak S Tęczowe Kfiaty bra 32KK/70KK in these photos, along with some Sloggi briefs and a pair of Matalan High Waist Bum and Tum 15 Denier Tights in Black (I could only find the nude ones available on the website here), with some old black heels from New Look.

The Jacquard Dress is made from a structured but stretchy fabric (50% polyester, 48% viscose, 2% elastane) that hugs curves and does not hide your figure one little bit. I’m wearing the size 14 here and as you can see it fits me almost like a second skin. If you want a less revealing fit I would recommend sizing up in this.

The dress has a round neck, which I felt very comfortable in (I don’t always as sometimes they feel like they are strangling me but this one was fine). It has a featured zip at the back from the neck, but I found this was really a design feature rather than a zip of use as it really didn’t open the dress up at all to help with getting it on or off.

Lengthwise the dress is on the knee on me (I am 5’5) but if I added a belt it would come up shorter. I don’t think I need to add a belt with this dress but it’s certainly something worth bearing in mind. If you’re a regular reader of this blog you’ll know how I like skirts and dresses that comfortably cover my knees so the fact that this dress didn’t do so definitely marked it down for me.

The full length sleeves fitted me well and did not feel too tight or uncomfortable at all. It’s pretty hard to get long sleeves these days as so many dresses have three-quarter length or elbow length sleeves, so this was a nice feature.

I felt very feminine and really quite sexy in this dress as it leaves very little to the imagination. Not by showing lots of flesh, but instead by being so incredibly form-fitting. In the end I decided this dress was just a smidgeon too fitted for me and so I returned it. I contemplated buying it in a size up but in the end I decided against it as the length is just that little bit shorter than I’d like and I didn’t want to buy something that I wouldn’t end up wearing. That said, it is a lovely dress and if you’re a bit shorter than me or you don’t mind dresses of this length I would highly recommend it to you as I am sure you will love it!

The Jacquard Dress is also available in a pink version here.

It's a gorgeous dress, and I think it looks perfect on you! You are lucky that you don't have any rolls, as I think this is a dress that lends itself perfectly to curves, but that people with wobbly bits may be too self conscious to wear it!

Aww, thank you, Kaytee! I agree that it's a dress more for curves than other body shapes, but I bet it would look lovely on most people.

Aww……You should have kept the dress, it looked good on you. It may have been form fitting but I think the dark color allowed you to be a little more daring. I think the pink color on the other hand would not offer the same modesty.

Thank you – but I decided not to keep it as I think it would have remained in my wardrobe unworn. I just didn't feel the fit was quite good enough for me.

So nice dress for you. May be worth to buy next size up, so 16 yes?

Thanks Ilena. Last time I looked on the Evans website it wasn't available in a 16, but I might be tempted if it was!

Great dress but if you don't feel comfortable in it there was no point in keeping it so I am glad you returned it. Nothing worse than unworn dresses hanging in your wardrobe!

Exactly. My wardrobe is overflowing as it is, so what's the point of keeping dresses I won't wear?

Wow! Your figure rocks this dress so much!! It was made for you. I'm going to order the pink one to try as teal is not my favourite colour. Hope it works for me, even if I only look half as good as you I will still be over the moon =o)))

Thank you, Anna. How did you get on with the pink dress? I'd love to see a picture!

I wish I had a flat tummy like you! I would wear dresses like this all the time. Great review though. Lots of useful info and details about the dress x

Thanks Sarah. My tummy is not as flat as it once was, but the tightness of the dress smoothes it out somewhat. Thank you for your kind words.

I love this dress and you look stunning in it but I fear I would be revealing my knickers to all (vpl and actual knicker) if I were to wear it. Shame as the material is beautiful! C xx

I get the vpl fear thing, but how could you possibly reveal your actual knicker? From what possible angle? How?

Hi Charli, thank you for being lovely as always! The material is indeed gorgeous but it would certainly show a VPL, I'm afraid :-/

I have this dress in both the teal and the pink and I had to go up two sizes to get it to fit properly. It's not a dress I would wear if I was going for a big dinner as it shows every lump and bump and no one wants to see my food baby but for a girls night out it is perfect. Whenever I wear this I get compliments, so you would cause a riot! x

Yes – the dress is a very fitted one but I am sure you look absolutely amazing in it 🙂
