It’s a lovely classically shaped dress with a fitted upper body and flared skirt. I was sent the Oia in a size 42 BB/BBB.
The first thing that struck me was the colour. This is a gorgeously vibrant cobalt blue, which is a hue I absolutely adore. It works well with my blonde hair and blue eyes and I love wearing red lipstick to really make it pop!
The Oia dress is made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane. It’s machine washable and really easy to care for. It feels like a thinnish version of ponte fabric but is still fairly thick, and the material is very soft and stretchy. It really is wonderful quality and seems as though it will last and last. This material is not cheap and thin at all and in fact feels rather luxurious and expensive. It’s an ideal dress for cooler days.
The dress has a zip at the back to help with getting it on and off but I found it was not required at all, thanks to the stretchy fabric. Perhaps this means the 42BB/BBB is a bit big for me and I could have in fact done better with a 40BB/BBB? Who knows!
The boob room on this 42BB/BBB dress is perfect (for reference I am wearing my Ewa Michalak PL Cappuccino bra 30L/65L). The waist is perfect. The fit on the back of the dress is perfect. Actually, it genuinely feels as if the Oia dress has been tailor-made for me. The tailoring is lovely and the dress feels so well made. It’s another superb dress success from BiuBiu!
As you can see from my photos, the flared skirt perhaps adds a little bulk at the middle and across my tummy and hips due to the thick folds but really this is a tiny gripe on what is otherwise a perfect dress for modest wear. My boobs are very well covered but not in a frumpy style because the top half of the dress is form-fitting. For me, the length of skirt is great as it covers my knees – it actually reminds me a little of my beloved Collectif Dolores Doll dresses.
And best of all: there are two very handy pockets in the skirt! I LOVE pockets and wish more dresses had them. In my job I always need to carry bits and pieces around with me so pockets are invaluable.
The sleeves are lovely and comfortable. They fit my large arms very nicely – not too tight – and are a true 3/4 length.
As my pictures show, I have absolutely no need to wear a belt with the Oia dress! I daresay some of you think I wear a belt with everything and I know it’s not to everyone’s taste. The truth of the matter is that I often am forced to add a belt as clothing is too baggy on my waist otherwise. The great joy I have discovered with BiuBiu is that very often a belt is not needed as their clothing fits my form so beautifully. So the Oia is a welcome addition to my wardrobe for the times when I choose not to wear a belt.
This is my favourite of all the BiuBiu dresses from my surprise parcel (closely followed by the Vienna). However, I can strongly recommend all the items I have tried as the prices, even when postage is added, are very reasonable and comparable to those found in UK high street stores. The main difference between such stores and BiuBiu is the quality – first class fabrics, tailoring, fit and finishing all add up to beautiful garments that will last year on year and remain classic wardrobe staples for a long time to come.
I can’t wait to try more BiuBiu items and will be sure to share them with you when I do! What’s your current favourite BiuBiu piece?
