Matalan Sunray Metallic Dress

About a month ago, I popped into my local Matalan.  I hadn't been in the store for some time - probably around a couple of months - so it was great to have so many new items to look at and try on.

I saw the Sunray Metallic Dress on a rail and although it didn't look anything special on the hanger I decided to pick one up to try, along with a few other pieces.

For reasons unknown to me, I have always been drawn to metallic knits.  I think they look very effective when teamed with black, and this dress was particularly of interest to me as it already had black knitted in with the gold.

I loved how the size 14 looked on me in the changing room so I bought it and took some photos at home.

The dress fits me beautifully without a belt or those dreaded waist ties (which so often seem to add bulk on me).  I love how it is very fitted on the top half and then flares out from the waist - so feminine!

The dress is made from a lovely soft knitted fabric, and the gold thread sparkles subtly and picks up the light to make it shine and shimmer.  Being made from 86% viscose, 9% polyester and 5% metallised fibre it will be really easy to wash and wear.

The boob room on this dress is good as the fabric stretches to fit my girls pretty well.  Having said that, I did find I had to adjust the dress to get it in the right place when first on, but once I'd done that it was fine.

The gold and black stripes across the boobs and down the front of the dress work perfectly to show off my curves to their best advantage.

Having short sleeves, this dress won't offer much in the way of warmth during cooler months.  However, it could easily be teamed with a black jacket, cardi or knitted bolero to give full coverage for my arms.

Length-wise, the dress came down to just above my knee so not one for wearing without tights (for me, at least!).  It wasn't so short that I felt self-conscious but I know I would be more comfortable if I had my legs encased in nylon when wearing this dress.

I felt very festive in the Sunray Metallic Dress and wanted to slink off to a party at the earliest opportunity!

The Sunray Metallic Dress is also available in silver:

I am still debating whether or not to get it in this colourway but at only £22 per dress these bargains won't be around for long, I am sure!

  2. I absolutely LOVE this dress, loved it when I saw it in the store weeks ago, and love it on you. Sadly I looked like a lumpy sausage poured into its skin in it, but you look amazing!

  3. From all the dresses I've seen on you so far (and I follow closely), this one is my favourite :) It tics all the boxes and it's anything BUT plain when you wear it :)
Two tumbs up! Might be getting one myself :)

  4. The black looks good on you although, I tried the gray and liked the colour a little better. I bought some shimmery tights to go with the dress also. I've noticed in some of your earlier posts you always wear black tights with the dresses. I like to have fun with tights I wear different patterns and textures along with basic black and opaque. Perhaps you can do a winter tights review :-)
