My Blog's First Birthday Giveaway!

Wow.  I can't believe where the past year has gone...and that it's really been 365 days since my very first post.  I'm so lucky that my blog has lasted this long - when I began it I honestly thought it would be something very few people would read but I had so many thoughts going round in my head about the lingerie and clothing I was trying that I needed somewhere to put them.  And here I am, 12 months later, still going strong.

When I started writing my blog, I intended for it to remain completely anonymous.  I wanted to share my findings of clothes and lingerie to suit my extremely voluptuous hourglass figure in the hope that my discoveries might help someone else, but to keep it very separate from my 'real' life.  I wasn't ready to share 'me' with the world so I kept my head out of my photos, in the hope that the focus would be on the items I was trying, rather than me personally.

That soon changed a few months down the line when I went to Simply Yours' launch of Gok Wan's new shapewear collection in late January 2012 and got to meet some real bloggers in the flesh - women who have become close friends of mine.  I got my picture taken a few times with Gok (and even asked him to pose for a 'boob grab' photo with Georgina and me) and naturally wanted to show off about it...and so my face appeared on my blog for the very first time.

After that, things changed on my blog and I decided that it would be ok to include my face in clothing and event photos.  I continued to keep my head out of any lingerie or swimwear photos as I still wanted the focus to be on the pieces, almost as if they were on a mannequin (albeit one with crazy measurements!).

Over the past year, I have published 118 blog posts, comprising 70 lingerie reviews and one guest bra review, as well as various other posts on shapewear, clothing and spotlights on particular brands.  I called myself 'Curvy Wordy' mainly to link to my extremely curvaceous figure, but the 'Wordy' part seems to also ring very true!

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past 12 months.  From my blogging and Facebook/Twitter friends to the brands who have so kindly sent me items to review or invited me to events, you have all been utterly wonderful.  My life has changed beyond recognition and I have loved every minute of it.

And, to celebrate my one year 'bloggiversary', I am delighted to announce my Blog's First Birthday Giveaway!  It comes in the form of a number of very simple prize draws so it couldn't be easier to enter.

I have published individual posts on each of the incredibly generous companies and brands who have offered to provide a prize (or prizes!) for my giveaway. I tell you a bit about the brand and you can enter as many of the prize draws as you wish by following the instructions on the posts.  However please make sure you read each post carefully as some of the draws will have restrictions on the location of entrants.

The brands and I have worked very hard to pull this together and I hope that we have managed to provide something to appeal to pretty much everyone.  I am ridiculously excited about the prizes and can't wait to tell you all about them!  For easy reference, I have posted links below to each and every draw post - there are 32 in total!

So, thank you again for your support, my dear readers.  Without you I would have undoubtedly given up this gig a while ago, but your continued interest in my reviews and musings keeps me writing.  You are wonderful and I wish you all the very best of luck in My Blog's First Birthday Giveaway!

Here's to the next 12 months :-)

THE PRIZE DRAWS WILL AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE ON SUNDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2012 AT 00:01 EST.  NO ENTRIES AFTER THIS POINT WILL BE ACCEPTED.

YOU CAN ENTER AS MANY OF THE GIVEAWAYS AS YOU LIKE.  HOWEVER, PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ THE RULES AND STIPULATIONS OF EACH GIVEAWAY CAREFULLY BEFORE ENTERING AND, IF APPROPRIATE, MAKE SURE THAT THE COMPANY/BRAND WILL DELIVER TO YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BLOG COMMENTS ON THE GIVEAWAY POSTS MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME (REAL OR PSEUDONYM) TO COUNT AS AN ENTRY. MAKE SURE THAT WHATEVER NAME YOU CHOOSE CAN IDENTIFY YOU IF YOU END UP BEING THE WINNER.  COMMENTS BY 'ANONYMOUS' WILL NOT COUNT AS ENTRIES.

  2. I have wondered this so often about the lingerie blogs I read. How are you able to not get in trouble/fired at work for the photos? I only wonder because I am interested in starting reviews but I am worried about the work aspect. Thank you for your time.

    1. Hi there, thanks for your question.

When I started this blog, another reason to keep my head out of the shots was so I could not be identified by my work colleagues. However, over time this has changed (for reasons stated in this post) and now I just keep my head out of the lingerie and swimwear pics.

I don't think the pictures I post are sexual or provocative, and if readers think they are then that is absolutely not my intention. Particularly with the lingerie and swimwear shots, I aim to show how the items fit me so that other people can use them as a point of reference themselves.

However, I have discovered that some of my images have ended up on 'special interest' sites (I think all lingerie bloggers will have found this at some point!) and this has made me even more certain that keeping my head out of these photos was the right thing to do. I cannot easily be identified in everyday life from my lingerie/swimwear shots and that is important to me and my career.

No-one at work knew about my blog for the first six months or so, but then I told a couple of colleagues because exciting things were happening and I was keen to share them. After that, I also told my boss because I wanted him to know about it in case there was ever an issue for any reason. I wouldn't have wanted for him to hear about it from someone else, so at least this way he is forearmed if needs be.

I don't think innocent pictures of oneself in lingerie, swimwear, shapewear and clothing posted on a blog review is a fireable offence, although I guess that may vary from country to country. Here in the UK I think the company I work for would be hard pressed to sack me due to this blog. As far as I am aware, I haven't done anything that would risk the company's reputation and I ensure that my blog does not get in the way of my duties.

If you are concern about this issue bt want to start a blog then I would suggest you keep your head out of your photos and remain completely anonymous...although this can prove tricky in the long run, as my experience shows!

Good luck - and if you decide to start a blog do tell me about it and I can add it to my blog roll :-)

    2. I just did my first review, of swimwear though. I am wearing huge sunglasses but I was thinking for any lingerie reviews, maybe I will just cartoon-ize the photo to show the fit and to show the details, I will take a picture of the item alone. If I was solely blogging about lingerie, I could definitely so the head-out pictures but I use the blog for a lot of random stuff so my identity is already known. I didn't mean to say the pictures were provocative, but it still worries me. I am in the US and I've rolled the idea off of some people here and they all have said its a bad idea. But I want to do it, so I might... Oh, you can check the bikini review out Here if you want. http://lingerieandlibraries.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/fashion-fridays-freyas-venetian-bikini-review/

  3. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
I assume that most, like yourself and FFFB, have been at this for years ... great to see so much new support for the fuller figured/shapely and however else we can define the sizes and shapes that have been hiding out unaware of the fantastic undergarment and clothing options existing and emerging.

THANK YOU For sharing yourself and your discoveries with the world - massive appreciation.

  4. Happy first birthday to your blog. I really enjoy reading it and can relate to your clothing and lingerie concerns. I have a small waist to bust/waist ratio too but I'm only 5 foot so clothes shopping can sometimes be a challenge.

  8. Happy Blogiversary!
I don't comment much much (at all? I don't remember) because I can never figure out exactly what to say so it makes sense to anyone but me ;)
But, I have found your reviews and info so amazingly helpful, I cannot even tell you. I am in a similar size range as you, though totally different shape/boob characteristics, and as you know, there's not that much out there for us! So the work that you've done with your blog and uploading everything you try to bratabase has been immensely helpful to me.

    So congratulations and thank you!!!

(looking forward to entering some giveaways, pretty please don't make them require FB to enter?)

    1. Hi Raspberryleaf,

Thank you SO much for commenting. I really do appreciate the effort you have made in order to get in touch. It means a great deal to me.

Thank you also for your kind words of support. I feel kind of overwhelmed by your words and those of others :-)

I did think about those readers who might not have Twitter or Facebook so you can enter by commenting on the relevant posts instead.

      Good luck!

    2. you're welcome :) I'm glad you are getting to see how appreciated you are!

Thank you for offering a variety of ways to enter. :) These giveaways are awesome!
I will be so excited if I win something!

I'm sorry to be such a pest, but can you explain how to do the comment entries? I've never used rafflecopter before, and it looks like the commenting-entry instructions only show up when you've completed the GFC, FB, and Twitter ones? Or something? (I do actually have Twitter, so I've done those ones, but I'd really like to earn the comment-based entries too, since I don't have FB/GFC.) Thanks :)

    3. Hi again,

Great news - I have changed the entry system so now you can enter any way you like and there are no mandatory steps.

The comment-based entries just mean you leaving a comment on the giveaways you'd like to enter. Make sure you comment with whatever it is I've asked for, not just any old comment ;-)

  12. This is amazing, thank you.

Just a quick question. GFC won't let me sign up and I don't overly want to anyone...do I HAVE to sign up to/follow you on there to complete entry for each draw? Or does each separate social network follow count as one entry?

Thanks for your comment. I have changed the giveaways so now there are no compulsory entries but of course the more ways you enter the more chances you have to win :-)

  14. Wow, amazing giveaway! Thank you :D I've never won anything in my life, so I hope to win, haha :D
Maybe I am just overly tired, but.... How do I enter? I've put in my email and name, and then it says "0/7 entries", and there are all those things where it says +1 for following you or the company on Twitter and Facebook... Well, my blog is all anonymous, so I don't want to follow all sorts of lingerie stuff from my Facebook xD So I just did the google friendster thing.. Am I still in?

    1. Hi XLhourglass,

Thanks for your comment. You can enter as many ways as you like, and the more ways you enter the better chance you have of winning. Each way is one entry to the draw.

      Hope that makes sense.

      Good luck!
