Well, if a retailer does good things, we should shout about it, right? Certainly people are often all too quick to criticise so I think it's crucial to make a big fuss when something good happens.
And Debenhams have a lot to celebrate at the moment, especially with their own brand 'Gorgeous' lingerie celebrating its 10th birthday this year!
I remember buying Gorgeous bras from Debenhams at Lakeside around what must have been the very early days of the brand's existence. I was amazed that they had their own brand of lingerie and was impressed with the construction of the bras. Furthermore, I was over the moon that I could buy almost any bra style I wanted (plunge, balcony, push up) in my size at the time - I was probably a FF-G cup.
A few months ago, I took my friend bra shopping and our department store of choice for this was Debenhams. Liz ended up buying several bras from the Gorgeous collection (and has bought several more since) and we were really spoilt for choice. Regular readers of my blog will know how much I love a bargain and I am thrilled that every time I have been into the Debenhams lingerie department there have always been a number of items on offer/in the sale. What's more, if there is some kind of in store promotion, such as 20% off everything, the discount is taken off sale items too. Liz picked up a couple of Gorgeous bras recently for less than £4 per bra - superb!
The Gorgeous range is specifically designed for the fuller bust and has bras in backs 28-40 and cups from D to J which offer great value as well as style. I had a quick look on the Debenhams website before writing this post and found that the most expensive Gorgeous bra was £24.00, and that was a sports bra! So the range is certainly affordable...but what about the styles on offer?
Well, Gorgeous are quite rightly proudly of the fact they have pretty fashionable bras on offer, as well as every day and flirty styles. As previously mentioned, they even do sports bras! Debenhams are proud to describe their lingerie range as 'the everyday solution for women with curves'.
I must admit to not having tried a Gorgeous bra myself recently so there's no review from me here but do take a look at Georgina and Sophia's recent reviews of them. Online the bras only go up to a J cup but Georgina reports that they're available up to K so I will be investigating this next time I am in a Debenhams store.
A tiny niggle I have with the range is that the padded/plunge bras are only available up to an H cup - this is brilliant compared to many high street stores but I do hope Debenhams have plans to extend the range to HH/J+ cups in the near future.
Also, as mentioned by both Georgina and Sophia, the fit of the bras on some of the models is quite shocking! I am sure such lingerie specialists as Gorgeous know full well that a bra's band shouldn't look like this when fitted properly:
Yikes! The band curves upwards, indicating it's too loose, and the tell-tale sign of it being worn on the tightest hooks is a dead giveaway of a poor fit. Oops!
Despite these two issues, I think Gorgeous is a fab lingerie range and I hope they will soon put right these small problems in order to reinforce their excellent brand. Having been going for a decade, they are obviously doing a lot of things right and I think offering a decent selection of bras (with matching briefs available) in a wide range of styles and sizes at very attractive prices is a pretty irresistible combination.
Congratulations to Debenhams Gorgeous lingerie - here's to the next 10 years!
